How To Make Lavender Flower Spheres

These lavender spheres were created with craft materials I had on hand. If I were to make them again I would figure out another type of core, since Styrofoam is not biodegradable.

Materials: 3 inch Styrofoam spheres, bamboo skewers, acrylic paint (permanent, water based, fast drying), tacky glue, lavender flowers

Styrofoam sphere

Poke a bamboo skewer into the Styrofoam sphere.
Brush paint on the sphere until thoroughly covered. Let dry.

Drying in the garden on this nice hot summer day.

Brush tacky glue on thickly.
Press lavender buds on sphere until there is no glue showing.

(If there are a few spots not covered with lavender,

that's OK, you can always touch up later.) Let dry.

Just for fun I put one in the flower bed to dry.

Display these lightly scented lavender spheres however you desire.

  6. You could try using a felted ball as the core. Apart from being biodegradable/reusable it would absorb the scent of the lavender.
